The Hub is a gathering space for hospitality, education, reflection and mission.
Since the opening of the Hub in April 2016, we have built connections with a range of local community groups

Indigenous Hospitality House Learning Circles
The Mercy Hub has developed a strong connection with Indigenous Hospitality House (IHH) in Carlton North, which hosts Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are supporting a family member in Melbourne’s hospitals. During 2019, the Mercy Hub hosted monthly Learning Circles led by the IHH. The Learning Circles are open to all, and are an opportunity to reflect on what is being learned while offering hospitality to Aboriginal people.
In 2021 we celebrated NAIDOC Week with a Learning Circle and were honoured to have within our presence, a Wurundjeri elder, Uncle Norm, who shared with us his perspective on indigenous disposition and the impacts of intergenerational trauma. Uncle Norm spoke from the heart and expressed that for first nations people to find themselves, they must have a sense of their history and culture. Uncle Norm reminds us that, “We are all the same, and none of our hearts beat differently”. Some guests attended to help educate their young children, while others were new to Australia and wanted a deeper understanding of our indigenous history. Our guests had a readiness to learn about how indigenous and non-indigenous Australians can work together to “feel more connected”. For more information about IHH, visit www.ihh.org.au |
Carlton Community Network (CCN)
Mercy Hub is a member of the Carlton Community Network (CCN) and participates in its bi-monthly meetings. CCN member organisations work collaboratively to improve social capital, support, and access to services for the diverse range of local residents in Carlton. Mercy Hub hosts CCN meetings and shares learning and resources with agencies in the network.

The Rotary Club of Carlton
The Rotary Club of Carlton has been an important connection for the Mercy Hub to the broader Carlton community. The Rotary Club of Carlton uses the Hub for its monthly meetings. In 2019, the Hub was able to support the great work of the Rotary Club of Carlton by hosting their Book Fair in the 617 Nicholson St exhibition space.
